Auto transmission fluid change

Signs you may need to maintain your auto transmission system

Are you noticing delayed acceleration when trying to overtake on Singapore’s expressways? Hearing unusual clunking or grinding noises from your transmission? Experiencing gear slippage or inconsistent shifting? These could be signs of transmission issues. Your system might be overheating—especially if you often drive with heavy loads—and may require a transmission cooler. In some cases, worn or damaged components might call for repairs or even a full overhaul. Sometimes, the issue is simply low or deteriorated transmission fluid, which may need topping up or a complete fluid change.

Can flushing be done

When auto transmission fluid change is needed

Automatic transmission fluid plays a critical role in keeping your transmission running smoothly. It lubricates moving parts, cools the system, and helps keep components clean.

Over time—and depending on your car manufacturer’s guidelines, as well as whether your vehicle has a manual or automatic transmission—this fluid needs to be changed. Most manufacturers recommend a transmission fluid change at around 100,000 km, though some may suggest a shorter or longer interval.

Typically red in color, transmission fluid darkens as it deteriorates and may accumulate dirt and debris. This process can accelerate under city driving conditions that involve frequent stopping and starting, or when the vehicle regularly carries heavy loads. These scenarios generate more heat, placing extra strain on the fluid as it works to cool the transmission system.

If we assess that your transmission fluid is no longer in suitable condition, we will carry out a full fluid change. For vehicles equipped with transmission filters, we will also clean or replace them as part of the service to ensure optimal performance.

Common causes of car condenser malfunction

In some cases, if the transmission fluid is not severely deteriorated, a full fluid change may not be necessary—a transmission fluid flush could be sufficient.

A flush helps remove built-up dirt, debris, and contaminants from the system, improving fluid flow and allowing the transmission to better lubricate and cool its components. This can restore smoother operation and enhance overall performance.

However, not all vehicle manufacturers recommend transmission flushing. That’s why it is important for us to first assess your car’s make and model before advising whether a flush is suitable for your vehicle.

Auto transmission fluid top-up

Sometimes, transmission issues arise simply because the fluid level is too low—not because the fluid needs to be completely replaced. When the fluid level drops below the recommended range, it can no longer properly lubricate, cool, or protect the transmission system.

If our inspection reveals that your transmission fluid is low, we will perform a top-up to restore it to the correct level. Additionally, we will check for any potential leaks that may be causing the fluid loss and advise you on the necessary repairs to prevent future issues.

Testimonials

After my free servicing period for my car, I thought it was time to look out for better priced alternatives. I gave ECV Car Service Singapore a call and tried out their service. It was a hassle free experience and good value. - Kenneth Chin, Buona Vista

I had a tire leak caused by a puncture after driving over some construction debris. ECV Car Service Singapore could fix this up for me so I don't need to spend on a new tire. Friendly workshop! - Mr K.T. Liew, Redhill

My car aircon was not functioning and I was not sure what the cause was. I initially brought my car to the dealer workshop and was told the compressor is down. But the price quoted for the compressor replacement was so high. I then gave ECV Car Service Singapore a call, and the price turned out to be much lower, and quality of service good. Thumbs up! - Joel Tan, Bukit Batok
