Experiencing tyre leak?
Have you found that the air pressure of one of your tyres is going out much more rapidly than before, and as compared to the other tyres? In such a case, it is likely that the tyre going out quickly has a leak that needs to be fixed. There can be different causes of this issue, and our mechanics would help you carry out a detailed check to determine the cause and fix tyre leak.

Causes of tyre leaks
Common causes of tyre leaks are from tyre punctures, requiring either a plug and patch repair or a replacement. However, it may also be that you are experiencing quicker than normal air leaks with no apparent holes in the tyres. Some of the possible causes are as follows:
- Valve stem damage. One possibility is that the valve stem has been damaged, either from being exposed to chemicals or just from deterioration from wear and tear. An observation that you may find in such an instance that the leak is slow and at a somewhat constant pace.
- Mounting of the tyre. The mounting of the tyre can be another cause of the tyre leak. This can be caused by damage, from the impact of hitting a pothole. This causes a dent to the rim, and damages the mounting surface of the wheel.
- Insufficient air pressure in tyre. The tyres could also be damaged when you drive a tyre that does not have sufficient air.

Fix tyre leak - targeting the problems
Tyre valve stem replacement
If it is determined with our valve tool that the issue is the damage to the valve stem, we would jack up your car and remove the damaged valve stem and replace a new one, and fill up the tyre to the correct air pressure again. One tip for drivers is to always put on the cap for the valve stem as this would keep out the dirt from the valve system.
Issues with mounting of tyre
If the issue is with the mounting of the tyre, which could be caused from impact, we would fix up the damages, if any to the rim or mounting surface. We will then re-mount the tyre if it is still in condition for use or a new one otherwise. Over extended use, there can also be corrosion which damages the seal between the tyre and the wheel. Depending on whether the tyre beads are badly damaged in the process, we would advise you if the tyres would still be safe to use or a new tyre is needed. We would then help you to re-mount the fixed or new tyre to fix tyre leak.
Driving with insufficient air pressure
Driving with insufficient air pressure will damage the tyres. This is because the air pressure in the tyres is needed to give support to the weight of the car, and damages that will occur include scuffing along the inboard as well as outer sidewalls of the tyre. Your fuel economy would also be affected. We would check if the integrity of your tyre is still fine for use, and advise you to replace with a new tyre otherwise.
