Brake service & repair

Benefits of brake service and maintenance

Brake overhaul Mini Cooper

Keeping your car’s brakes in top condition is crucial for your safety and that of your passengers. Regular brake servicing as part of your routine car maintenance helps ensure reliable stopping power when you need it most. With Singapore’s tropical climate and frequent heavy downpours, well-maintained brakes—working in tandem with your tires—are essential for safe driving, especially on slippery roads.

Checks during brake service

As part of our car servicing, we conduct thorough brake inspections to ensure your safety on the road. Our checks include:

✔ Brake Fluid Levels – Ensuring optimal fluid levels for smooth braking performance.
✔ Brake Pads & Discs (Rotors) – Assessing wear and tear for safe stopping power.
✔ Brake Lining – Checking for signs of deterioration.
✔ Brake Pipelines & Hoses – Inspecting for leaks or damage that could affect braking efficiency.

If you’ve noticed any issues with your brakes, don’t wait—bring your car in for a detailed inspection and necessary repairs. Your safety is our priority!

Importance of brake fluid

Brake Fluid Check: A Crucial Part of Brake Maintenance

Brake fluid plays a vital role in keeping your braking system functioning properly. It lubricates moving components and protects against corrosion. To ensure optimal performance, it’s essential to maintain the right brake fluid level.

Over time, moisture can seep into the brake fluid, lowering its boiling point and reducing braking efficiency. Even a small 1% moisture increase can drop the boiling point by 50°C—from 250°C to 200°C—affecting your brakes’ performance, especially in demanding conditions.

This becomes even more critical when driving through hilly terrain, such as on road trips across the Causeway into Malaysia. Frequent braking on steep descents can put extra stress on your brakes, making fresh, high-quality brake fluid essential for safety.

Experiencing signs that you may need brake repair?

Your brakes are one of the most important safety components in your car. If you notice any of these warning signs, it may be time for a brake inspection and repair:

🔧 Grinding or High-Pitched Squealing Sounds – Unusual noises when braking could indicate worn-out brake pads.
🚗 Increased Braking Distance – If it takes longer to stop than usual, your brakes may be losing effectiveness.
⚠ Spongy or Soft Brake Pedal – A brake pedal that feels soft or requires more pressure to engage could signal a fluid or component issue.
🛑 Brake Warning Light on Dashboard – This alert means your braking system needs immediate attention.

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, don’t wait—bring your car in for a professional brake check to ensure your safety on the road!

Diagnosing & Repairing Brake Issues

If you're experiencing brake problems, they could stem from various causes. For example:

🔹 Squealing Sounds – Often a sign of worn-out brake pads that need replacement.
🔹 Grinding Noises – This may indicate damaged brake discs or rotors that require attention.

When you visit our workshop, we’ll conduct a thorough brake inspection, checking all critical components—including brake pads, discs, and brake lines—to pinpoint the exact issue. Sometimes, brake wear can be caused by underlying problems, such as a misaligned steering column due to a past collision impact, leading to uneven brake pad wear.

Let our experts identify and fix the problem so you can drive safely and confidently. Book a brake check today!

Common repairs needed

Brake Pad Replacement

Brake pads are one of the most commonly replaced components in a car’s braking system. They work by pressing against the brake rotor to slow down your vehicle, gradually wearing down over time. If your brake pads have worn to less than 3mm, they need to be replaced to ensure safe braking.

🔹 Even Braking – Brake pads must be replaced in pairs (e.g., both front wheels) to prevent uneven braking, which can cause your car to pull to one side.
🔹 Cost – Prices start from $50 per brake pad, depending on your car’s make and model.
🔹 Preferred Brake Pads – If you have a specific brand or type in mind—such as Brembo, ceramic, EBC, Ferodo, Hawk, or racing brake pads—let us know, and we’ll check compatibility and arrange for the necessary parts in advance.

Brake Lining Replacement

The brake lining is the part of the brakes that comes into contact with the brake disc when you press the brake pedal, converting kinetic energy into heat. Over time, brake linings can rust or crack, and if they wear out completely, the rivets may contact the rotors or drums, causing further damage. Replacing worn-out brake linings is crucial to prevent costly repairs and maintain effective braking.

Brake Disc (Rotor) Replacement

Brake discs, along with brake pads and calipers, generate friction to slow your car down. When in good condition, brake discs are smooth and shiny, but over time, they can develop bumpy spots, scoring, or uneven wear. If this happens, the discs may need to be resurfaced or replaced for optimal braking performance.

Testimonials

After my free servicing period for my car, I thought it was time to look out for better priced alternatives. I gave ECV Car Service Singapore a call and tried out their service. It was a hassle free experience and good value. - Kenneth Chin, Buona Vista

I had a tire leak caused by a puncture after driving over some construction debris. ECV Car Service Singapore could fix this up for me so I don't need to spend on a new tire. Friendly workshop! - Mr K.T. Liew, Redhill

My car aircon was not functioning and I was not sure what the cause was. I initially brought my car to the dealer workshop and was told the compressor is down. But the price quoted for the compressor replacement was so high. I then gave ECV Car Service Singapore a call, and the price turned out to be much lower, and quality of service good. Thumbs up! - Joel Tan, Bukit Batok
