Maintain your radiator system with a radiator flush
The radiator works to keep your car engine cool, via the coolant that flows through the engine and radiator system. By keeping it in tip top condition, you ensure that the radiator system operates efficiently and lasts longer. One of the maintenance service to help to do so is to have a radiator flush. This can vary from car make to car make, and will be based on your car manual’s recommendation. Typically, a flush is needed only around 50,000km.

Signs of needing radiator flush
Some issues you may face if the coolant has deteriorated include seeing the low coolant warning light come on on your dashboard. As the engine cooling capability may be affected, you may see the engine temperature indicator going towards the red zone.

How often do I need a radiator flush
Radiator flush does not need to be very often as it would then be a wastage of the coolant, with most coolant used in cars being intended to be of long life, and requiring very little maintenance. Nonetheless, the coolant does deteriorate over the years, and the parts of the radiator may also be subject to rust. Having a flush then would help to properly drain up the old coolant material and remove the impurities and rust caught in the radiator system, to avoid damage that may then require a radiator repair.

Is radiator flush the same as draining
Flushing is different from just draining, as draining and filling up again would not be as effective in removing the impurities. The flushing normally is around two to three times, for proper cleaning. After the flushing, a proper drainage again takes place before the new coolant is topped up. This new, fresh coolant will serve as a much better lubricant and offer better rust protection than the deteriorated old coolant. We would then allow the air to escape to get rid of the air pockets, to create more room to top up more coolant, to the fill line level.
