Experiencing inconsistent engine power? You may need a fuel injector replacement
Have you experienced any of the following symptoms? Do you find that your engine power seems to be inconsistent, with the engine revving fluctuating? Or have you found your engine misfiring? Does the engine idle seem rough? Or has your fuel economy seem to be poor of late? These could be symptoms that there are issues with your fuel injector, and that you may need a fuel injector replacement to get it in good working order again. Our experienced mechanics can help you to check this to ascertain the cause of the issue, as it could also be from other triggers such as a faulty fuel pump.

How the fuel injection system works
The injection systems of modern petrol cars is indirect, and via the injector, fuel is either sent to the inlet port or inlet manifold. Depending on the type of system, the injector either creates a fine continuous spray of the petrol, or sends this as bursts. The injection system hence balances the amount of oxygen with petrol during the engine combustion process to minimise petrol wastage. It is hence important to maintain the system well, with replacements carried out when needed. Otherwise, there can be inconsistent engine power, poor fuel economy, as well as misfiring of the engine.
A well functioning fuel injection system is particularly important for turbocharged engines, which has become more popular on our roads in Singapore. This is because a poor balance of the petrol and oxygen can lead to a loss of power in the engine, affecting the revolutions per minute (RPM). The turbocharged engine, with its higher RPM has larger demands. The engine faces a risk of damage when the balance is off, from the higher temperatures.

Causes of fuel injector wear
One of the common problems of the fuel injection system is that they can become dirty, from the residue created during the combustion process. This crust of residue formed on the injector can impede the spray of the petrol sent out, as well as lead to an uneven spray. There can also be clogs in the fuel injection system from microscopic objects or from rust. These contribute to the wearing out of your fuel injector system.

When do I need fuel injector replacement
The valve of the fuel injector may fail to open or close, such as from the fuel injector becoming rusty or from broken springs in the system.
There can also be leaks, which would lead to excess fuel being retained in the system.
It would be necessary to carry out fuel injector replacement when this happens, as left on their own for some time, the engine would be damaged and overhaul of the engine needed, as well, from the process of vaporisation and expulsion of these retained fuel when the engine re-starts.
Our experienced mechanics will take out each of the fuel injectors to inspect them for damages such as cracks when determining if a faulty fuel injector is the cause of the problems, and only the damaged ones would need to be replaced.
